So, for some reason lately I've been reading up on the game and downloaded a tutorial type game. Anyone else play it and have books on it they liked? I've got a few recommended to read through, but not sure if there's prefered ones.

facebook has a fun app (texas holdem) thats pretty realistic.

I used to play all kinds of Poker.

I have read Brunson's two books. Both are ok. I would get his second first as it builds on the original. There are some great tools in there about position betting and watching play.

The other authors are fine. If you like math and odds betting there are a number of methods and books that support those techniques.

You will also find a group of authors focused on playing the player and picking up clues.

Overall, I have found that practice makes perfect. When poker became popular a few years ago I saw a lot of new players start to play (me being one) and we were all weak. Now these same players are very good and new fish struggle to make money. If you go to a poker room understand that the players mostly know each other and you are the new meat. Start out with friends and refine your play before heading out to risk money. There are also poker tournament leagues that don't bet real money that are great places to start.

I use all of the above and each situation is different. The key I have found is playing the player and avoiding big mistakes.
